Brave Ships
“Ruth Blake’s music seems to emanate from a waking dream.
Her compositions are made of shades of love, sweetness and strength”
David Mboussou

About Ruth Blake
Ethereal songstress Ruth Blake writes multi-faceted and poignant contemporary folk, rich with symbol and story-telling, weaving hypnotic guitar riffs and tender poetry with rambunctious offbeat grooves and playful word-smithery.
Her voice first captivated audiences as she accompanied eccentric and pioneering composer and multi-instrumentalist, Edward Chilvers, on his debut album of songs, Change Your Mind. She soon crowd-funded and released her own debut album of poignant folk, Lullabies for Grown-Ups. That same year she was hailed as “destined for greater things… channelling the spirit of Joni Mitchel” by Drowned in Sound at Cambridge Folk Festival. In 2018 she released her second studio album, the colourful Creation, rich with uplifting melodies and multi-part harmonies.
Blake has played at various festivals and is a member of the Music as Medicine collective. She has recorded at Real World Studios with James Frost and with Manchester’s dark-funk ensemble, Caulbearers (including on their 2020 release, Over Comes a Cloud). Her latest single ‘Brave Ships’ marks the beginning of a new collaboration with producer Damien Mahoney, with whom she is recording her third studio album.
